Indigo is one of the oldest dyes used for coloring fabrics and the one still used today to color blue jeans. It's a unique plant-based dye that provides for a simple, fun, and unique dyeing process on fabrics made from natural fibers, such as cotton, silk, and rayon.
Through this DIY kit you'll set up your own indigo vat for dyeing and practice the basics of shibori-inspired folding and binding techniques to create beautiful patterns on your fabric.
You'll be amazed as your stunning one-of-a-kind patterns are unfolded and revealed! The kit provides enough dye for fabric equal to more than 15 shirts and also two dyeable items to get your started.

- Items to create your indigo vat:
- 20 g pre-reduced indigo
- 50 g reducing agent
- 100 g soda ash
- Pair of gloves
- Items to prepare fabric:
- 2 small wood blocks
- 2 small sticks
- rubber bands
- Item to dye:
- (1) 27"x27" white hemmed cotton tea towel
Note: not supplied, but you'll also need:
5 gallon bucket with lid, long stick for stirring (paint stir stick or yard stick works well!), warm water, dropcloth or other method of protecting nearby surface, small pan or bowl, and of course other natural fabric items you'd like to dye
