Have you always wanted to feature one of those chalkboards with gorgeous calligraphy and design details in your home but don’t know where to start? Join us to create your very own Pinterest worthy piece!
In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to create a unique hand-lettered design on a framed 12”x15” chalkboard. We’ll start by reviewing some basic tools and techniques before diving in to create your very own chalkboard art using provided design templates (see photos) and our favorite chalk markers. No previous experience or lettering skills are required- you’ll learn all of the tricks and techniques needed to produce a beautifully lettered design ready to hang on your wall.
All necessary materials will be provided.

Select the "Class Registration & Chalkboard Art Kit Bundle” option during registration (+$28), and you'll take home a kit to make a second piece of chalkboard art. This kit includes a 12”x15” framed chalkboard, transfer paper, and a white broad-tipped chalk marker.

Amanda Donahue is the owner and creator of The Scribblist, a calligraphy, lettering and illustration studio located in Portland, Oregon. With an extensive background in fine art as a painter and sculptor, Amanda brings a touch of whimsy into all aspects of her work, creating pieces that pay homage to beautiful lettering and joyful illustration. She is passionate about teaching and encourages others to discover their own creative voice through calligraphy, lettering and illustrative workshops. When Amanda isn't painting or working on lettering projects, you can find her enjoying a warm cup of tea and spending time with her husband and Goldendoodle pup, Brady.
Important Info
Unless otherwise noted, workshops are for those 16 years of age or over.
Cancellation Policy-
A 72 hour notice via email prior to class is required to issue a refund of the class fee.
A 48 hour notice via email prior to class is required to reschedule or issue class credit.
If the class size minimum is not met 48 hours before class, Assembly may cancel class and all registered students will be notified via email.

Come get creative at Assembly’s studio storefront in Southeast Portland located in the vibrant Clinton-Division neighborhood.
We're aligning with federal, state, and local guidelines to mitigate as many risks as we can in creating a healthy and safe (and fun!) environment to work and make. This includes updated cleaning protocols, new methods of providing technique demonstrations, and little to no shared supplies between students.
Please note:
- Classes are filled to less than 50% capacity (max of 9 people) to allow for physical distancing (6+ ft) between the seats at our 3 large tables.
- Seats are pre-assigned and people registered together will be seated together as a party. If you've signed up separately from a friend and want to sit together, please email to let us know!
